The cold winter months take a toll on your complexion.  Between frigid temperatures and the lack of sunshine and fresh air, skin can become dry, pale and altogether dull.  With spring just around the corner, it’s the perfect time to take care of your skin and brighten your complexion.  Here are ten natural ways to freshen your face just in time for spring.

Hydrate

Drinking water is absolutely essential to having a bright and refreshed complexion, as water helps to flush toxins from the body. Drinking water will also help to keep you hydrated. Adding moisture to your skin will make it look brighter.

Sleep

Getting enough shut-eye is key to making sure your skin looks healthy and refreshed.  After all, it’s called beauty sleep for a reason. Getting around eight hours of sleep nightly will not only work to remove dark circles under the eyes, but it also gives your skin cells time to repair themselves, adding to a better complexion.

Moisturize

When skin is dry, it often leads to a flaky and dull complexion. By moisturizing daily, especially in the evenings after using a face-wash or after taking a hot shower, you lock in moisture, giving skin a dewy, more natural glow.

Naturally Exfoliate

Often times, our skin’s natural glow is masked by dead and dry skin cells on the surface.  Make your own natural face scrub comprised of 1 teaspoon of both mashed banana and avocado, ½ teaspoon of sugar and 3 to 4 drops of honey.  Then apply it to your face in a gentle circular motion and then remove with water.  This will help to hydrate and exfoliate, leading to a brighter complexion.

Eat an Omega-3 rich diet

Consuming foods rich in omega-3fatty acids will help your complexion look fresh and revived due to its ability to increase cell membrane health.  This leads to more protected skin cells, as well as softer skin that holds in moisture.  Foods high in omega-3 fatty acids include, fish, nuts and avocados, among others.

Make an Almond and Milk Scrub

Gently scrubbing your face with both almonds and milk will help to contribute to a brighter more rejuvenated complexion. To make this scrub, mix equal parts of raw milk and finely crushed almonds.  Rub the mixture on your face in a circular motion and rinse off with cold water.

Eat Antioxidants

Having a diet that is high in antioxidants will not only increase your overall health but your skin’s health in particular. Incorporating antioxidant rich foods, such as tomatoes, green tea, fish and berries, into your diet will help you remove free radicals in the body, which can cause wrinkles in the skin and the appearance of aging.

Get Enough Vitamin E

Taking a vitamin E supplement is an easy, natural way to get glowing skin.  This vitamin helps to prevent signs of aging in the skin and damage done to the skin due to the sun or even high amounts of toxins in the body.  If you spend lots of time outside in the sun restoring your car, taking a vitamin E supplement can help to keep your skin from wrinkles and sunspots.

Exercise

Getting in a sweat session isn’t only good for burning calories, it is also a great way to improve your complexion.  By helping to expel oil and dirt through sweat, along with promoting blood circulation that reduces toxins, regular exercise will improve your skin’s health naturally.

De-stress

Stress can take its toll on the body in a variety of ways, including your complexion. To reduce break-outs, dark circles and an overall dull complexion, take time to distress and restore a healthy feeling and appearance to your body.
Refreshing your skin for spring doesn’t have to mean buying expensive serums, lotions or scrubs.  There are many natural ways to improve your skin’s health and leave your skin’s complexion looking and feeling much brighter.
